2023 COBA Showcase Home

This high performance, Net Zero Energy home was built by Solaire Homebuilders for the COBA Tour of Homes as the 2023 Showcase Home. This home is centrally located in Redmond, Oregon. This single level, three bedrom home with two baths features 1618 square feet of living space and is perfect for different types of families in various life stages from starter family home to empty nesters. Plenty of space to spread out but not so large that it’s overwhelming to maintain.

Our team “Solarified” a set of local builder plans given to us from Central Oregon Builders Association (COBA) to show Tour of Homes attendees that you can build a high performance home from a set of standard plans with a few important changes and upgrades. We started by improving the framing with staggered stud walls and upgrading them to 8″ exterior walls with maximum insulation for year-round comfort. We also ultra-insulated the ceiling and floors for consistent temperatures throughout the home. We upgraded the windows for additional energy efficiency and comfort. Then, we used our standard ductless mini-split heat pump heating and cooling system and a whole house Broan Energy Recovery Ventillator (ERV) for superior air quality and comfort.

This home is a modern craftsman style in dark navy color with natural accents. To achieve this, we mixed interior and exterior finishes using stacked stone and wood to give the home a warm, inviting feel. The high-performance windows are from Milgard windows, whose life-time warranty and durable materials stand up to the extreme weather variations we experience here in the high desert. Vertical wood siding with thick trim accents, overhanging eaves and an open soffit detail with exposed rafter tails add to the craftsman style. Stained cedar wood tongue and groove siding on the front and side porch ceilings add the Solaire Homebuilders style aesthetic to this home. While coordinating beautifully with the custom exposed timber beams at the front and rear overhangs on the home.

This home also features a super efficient Mitsubishi heat pump water heater featuring quick recovery and a hot water recirculation system to reduce water waste (no more running and wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink water to heat up.) With solar on the roof, installed by Sunlight Solar, this Net Zero energy home offsets 100% of it’s annual energy usage. Solar energy is clean energy thereby lowering your carbon footprint and reducing the cost of utility bills.

Inside, you will find beautiful engineered DuChateau hardwood flooring and tile running throughout the home to improve indoor air quality (this is more asthma and allergy friendly than carpet). Custom wood cabinetry from Brian’s Cabinets fill the kitchen (with a custom painted green island), laundry and bathrooms. Paulson’s floor coverings provided the durable quartz countertops in the kitchen, baths, and laundry. Gary’s Vacuflo provided a whole house Central Vacum System for the lucky new homeowners to enjoy.

The family room is filled with natural light from the ample windows and features a beautiful electric fireplace from Tri County Climate. The kitchen features a walk-in pantry, dry bar and has stainless LG Studio appliances including an energy efficient induction range. Finally, the extra spacious three car garage is complete with an electric vehicle charging circuit. The fully fenced yard features xeriscaping with Aspen Gravel, a stone wall and native plants from Ram Landscaping and Irrigation and a custom water feature from Burton Restoration.
